Fête du Genêt 2010 - Weekend de la Pentecôte 2010 - du 21 au 24 mai 2010. Le Corso du Genêt défilera le Lundi de la Pentecôte, le 24 mai 2010 à 15 heures.
The Festival of the Broom of Wiltz
As spring arrives the Pentecost weekend announces the annual FESTIVAL OF THE BROOM.
The City of WILTZ is decorated with the golden flower.
The FESTIVAL OF THE BROOM, which is probably the favourite child of the City of WILTZ, is one of the most important folk events of the Grand Duchy.
The foundation of these festivities dates back to 1948. The first procession of the broom presented itself in 1949.
Tony Mander, who is said to be the father of the festival, and his founding friends proved a passion for the beauty of nature, for their native town and for music.
The popular event is organized at the Pentecost weekend, which is the season when the North of Luxembourg, the “Ösling” offers you the most beautiful landscapes and the hills of the “Ösling” present themselves in their yellow dress of the broom.
Until 1965 the Festivities of the Broom were organized by the Syndicat d’Initiative Wiltz.
In 1965, a new association, "Les Amis de la Féerie du Genêt de Wiltz ", was founded and since then guaranteed the continuity of this impressive demonstration.
The first president was Dr Nicolas Schleich (1965-1971), followed by Nicolas Brassel (1972-1976), Ms Jacqueline Simon (1977-1980), Jeanly Schweig (1981-1989) and Victor Schreiner since 1990 - .
The main attraction of the event, the PROCESSION OF THE BROOM, happens in the streets of the City of WILTZ on Monday after Pentecost.
Every year this prestigious procession, decorated with the flower of the broom, with bands from Luxembourg and abroad, folk groups and international shows-bands, attracts thousands of visitors.
The Procession of the Broom finishes with the CARRIAGE of the QUEEN OF THE BROOM and of her MAIDS-OF-HONOUR.
This folk event is admired by thousands of spectators from Luxembourg, by tourists of all European countries and even the entire world.
